Sarah began making films to tell the stories of her family and other veteran families like hers. Her first film, Healing Soul Wounds, was an official selection at the 2016 GI Film Festival and her next two film projects, Widows Of the 22 and Leave No One Behind, are currently in development.

Healing Soul Wounds

In this film, Sarah follows her husband, John Dale (U.S. Army National Guard (Retired)), as he tells his story of recovering from PTSD by finding hope, healing and purpose in life after combat through his work with the nonprofit REBOOT Combat Recovery. To learn more about REBOOT visit

Widows of The 22

Widows Of The 22 is an ongoing collaborative storytelling project first started by Sarah in early 2016. She and her fellow military family members are helping widows of veterans who died by suicide tell their stories via essays, photos, and video at The project is always seeking more widows to share their stories. Leave No One Behind

In Sarah’s next film, Leave No One Behind, she is taking viewers on a journey as she explores what went wrong after her husband’s return from Iraq in 2005. Her investigation will reveal gaps in the Army’s reassimilation systems, in hopes that decisionmakers will change policies so that future families do not have to suffer like hers.
